Black Annis Returns

We are very excited to be hard at work again on our show Malevolent Creatures! We first workshopped this piece in the summer of 2014, but it got put on hold for awhile as we focused on building and then performing Saudade. Now we are back at it, exploring the layers of meaning in stories featuring supernatural characters from British folklore.

The first segment of the show, which focuses on a witch from Leicestershire called Black Annis was developed and shown as part of a puppet slam at Black Cherry Puppet Theater in Baltimore this past month. Here are a few photos from rehearsals and the performance. Photos are by Cecilia Cackley and Bill Haas.

SAUDADE Process Video

Saudade7This video contains some of the various pieces of the process it took to create Saudade: building shadow puppets, experimenting with movement on the various screens and finally the moving crankie and puppets in the finished piece. We hope you enjoy it!

We have four weeks until The Amazing and Marvelous Cabinets of Kismet opens. Tickets are on sale now and we are excited about the story that is coming to life! Here are some recent pictures of rehearsals, all taken by Sarah Gingold.

Rehearsals this month have been taken up with some strength conditioning (puppetry can be strenuous!), lots of experimenting with puppets, discussing the storyboard and story elements in detail and some puppet building. We will be sharing more insights into the process (including interviews with our cast, video and more) but here are some photos of early meetings in February:
